commonwealth games 2022
Sports
highly condensed programme
national & international success
In response to the shift of Birmingham’s intent to accelerate their proposition to host the Commonwealth Games from 2026 to 2022, the extensive bid process needed to be stringently managed within what was an incredibly condensed programme. As such, novus were proudly chosen to integrate and lead the project management aspect of this process, amongst a wealth and pinnacle of business and sport event professionals.
The bid, being a dual process, had to achieve success at both national and international levels, with a focus that not only demonstrated that Birmingham could hold a Games worthy of the world stage, but also the key aspects of its legacy thereafter; in the City and the wider region.
Utilising our venue and project management arsenal, amongst our differentiating approach, novus worked across all complexities and facets of the bid, managing and driving a collection of high profile stakeholders. This enabled us to obtain a whole new strategic dynamic and understanding of the major sporting event sector, bolstering and enhancing our overall perspective and skillset.
Despite the compressed programme, over a period of circa 6-months, Birmingham achieved success both nationally and internationally, to be selected as the host for the 2022 games.
We are hugely proud of what was a comprehensive role in this process and consider this to be a key highlight since novus’ inception.
